HRV & Biofeedback
See how your body responds to stress – and learn to find your way back to calm.

Stress is not only in our heads – it shows in the body, too: in our breathing, our muscle tension and the rhythm of our heartbeat. With HRV biofeedback, you can watch these reactions on screen in real time and practise influencing them through calm, paced breathing.
It is a practical way to get to know your own stress patterns and to build skills you can use in everyday life.
What Is HRV (Heart Rate Variability)?
Heart rate variability describes the small, natural variations in time between one heartbeat and the next. A healthy heart does not beat like a metronome. These fluctuations reflect how flexibly your autonomic nervous system switches between activation – the “accelerator” – and recovery – the “brake”.
Why Is HRV Interesting?
Higher HRV is generally associated with good adaptability and recovery, while lower HRV is often observed during periods of prolonged stress or tiredness. HRV depends on many factors, including age, fitness, sleep and time of day, so a single measurement is a snapshot, not a verdict. In my practice, the HRV scan is a starting point for our conversation about stress and relaxation – not a medical assessment.
What Is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback makes body signals visible that we usually don’t notice, such as your heart rhythm. Seeing them in real time helps you recognise how your body responds to thoughts, emotions and breathing – and to practise influencing that response. Related methods such as neurofeedback work with other body signals; you can find out more on their own pages.
How Does a Session Work?
1. Conversation – We talk about your current situation and what you would like to achieve.
2. HRV scan – While you sit comfortably, a small sensor records your heart rhythm. The measurement is painless and non-invasive.
3. Guided practice – You learn a calm, paced breathing technique and see on screen how your heart rhythm responds.
4. Reflection – We look at what you noticed and how you can use the exercise in everyday life.
What HRV Biofeedback Can Support
Many people find that regular practice helps them to recognise their personal stress signals earlier, to calm down more consciously in tense moments, to strengthen their ability to relax and self-regulate, and to bring more balance into everyday life. How this works for you is individual and depends, among other things, on regular practice.
Who Is It For?
HRV biofeedback is suitable for anyone who wants to understand their stress response better and learn practical relaxation skills – for example people in demanding jobs, in times of change or with a busy everyday life. It works well as part of stress prevention and can be combined with coaching or counselling.
Important to Know
In my practice, HRV biofeedback is used for relaxation, stress prevention and self-awareness. It is not a medical treatment and does not replace diagnosis or treatment by a doctor or psychotherapist. If you have a heart condition, a pacemaker or other health concerns, please speak to your doctor first and let me know before the session.
